Are the 3D-Capable HMD Devices Ready For Their Prime Time

It seems that Head Mounted Displays (HMD) are going to be a big thing by the end of this year and in 2012 as well, after a few years of silence, with 3D support being the key focus. There are already devices such as the more affordable Vuzix Wrap series of HMD devices, as well as the new Sony HMZ-T1 Personal 3D Viewer and the upcoming Epson Moverio BT-100 and SiliconMicroDisplay ST1080.

Sony is Taking Pre-Orders for the HMZ-T1 Personal 3D Viewer

Sony has demonstrated the prototype of their HMZ-T1 personal 3D viewer at the beginning of this year and later on has announced that the product will soon be available on the larger markets due to the huge consumer interest in the product. This is about to happen and the company has started to take pre-orders for the device and the expected release date of the product is October 26th (in USA)...

There are already a lot of applications for iPhone and iPod touch (should also work on iPad tablets) available on the App Store that are intended for making and viewing stereoscopic 3D photos on your device, so what sets apart the i3DSteroid? It is probably the best of them - the most user friendly and functional one...

New tech makes four-camera 3D shooting possible

According to researchers at Germany's Fraunhofer Institute for Telecommunications, at least four cameras will be needed if we ever want to achieve glasses-free 3D TV. Calibrating that many cameras to one another could ordinarily take days, however... which is why Fraunhofer has developed a system that reportedly cuts that time down to 30 to 60 minutes.
